A Local’s Guide to Ibiza’s Hippy Markets

Ibiza’s Hippy Markets

Best Markets in Ibiza

Bohemian, colourful, eccentric… All words that can be associated with the island of Ibiza. And where better to truly experience the vibrant and laid back vibe of Ibiza than at one of the many ‘Hippy Markets’ which are held regularly across the island. Follow our guide to the best of the bunch.

Las Dalias – San Carlos

The original and some would say the best of all the hippy markets, Las Dalias has been the setting for weekly markets for over 60 years. From its humble beginnings with just a few stalls selling locally grown fruit and vegetables to the residents of the island, the market has flourished over the years to become a haven for those seeking a true taste of Ibiza. Packed with a riot of colourful stalls selling everything from clothing, jewellery and trinkets, the market has several bars, restaurants and food outlets, and even its very own nightclub. One of the most famous and well loved stalls is run by the World Family, whose unmistakable bohemian style of bags, boots and clothing have become synonymous with both Las Dalias and indeed Ibiza herself. Children will delight in the old fashioned carousel in the centre of the stalls, powered by a man on a bicycle!
It’s worth remembering that the market can become exceedingly busy as it is such a popular destination, so we recommend arriving early to avoid the crowds, especially in the busy summer months.
Open every Saturday all year round between 10 am and 6.30 pm, with a night market on Mondays from 8pm until late from June until September.

Cala Llenya Market – Cala Llenya

For those who love a bargain, look no further than the weekly Sunday market at Cala Llenya. This is strictly a second hand market – known as a Rastrillo- and here stall holders gather each week selling a fabulous mixture of paintings, vintage clothes, ornaments, homewares and much, much more. The market attracts a loyal crowd each week throughout the year, with many people coming along to enjoy the live music which takes place each week from midday until around 6pm. The market is run by German owners, and this is reflected in the hugely popular Bratwurst stand, which sells traditional German hotdog style sausages.. delicious!
Every Sunday all year round from 8am until late

Es Canar Hippy Market – Punta Arabi

Another long running Ibiza institution, the Hippy Market at Es Canar attracts thousands of visitors each year. The grounds of the Punta Arabi resort are transformed each week into the biggest market on the island. As you enter the market – stop to marvel at the dozens of mime artists and entertainers who line the walkway to the main stalls, with their colourful costumes and inventive performances, you can stop to pose for a photo to commemorate your visit. Inside the market itself, there are over 500 stalls to browse through, a real treasure trove of goods, again selling a psychedelic selection of clothes, jewellery, homewares and artwork.
Every Wednesday from April until October from 9am until 7pm.

San Juan Artisan Market – San Juan

A new addition to the Ibiza market scene is the weekly Sunday market in the picturesque village of San Juan. Much smaller than the previously mentioned events, the market has a very bohemian vibe, and this is reflected in the stalls themselves. Much of the focus is on fresh, organic food, and you will find many people selling their homemade jams and chutneys, along with a mouthwatering selection of fruit and vegetables, and even organic sugar free chocolate! There are also stallholders selling clothing and other items such as hats, scarves and other accessories, again often handmade by island residents. A friendly, eclectic vibe is perfectly complemented by the live bands who perform in the square each week.
Every Sunday from 9am until late all year round.
