Each neighborhood in Buenos Aires has its own charm and style and the first thing you notice when you walk down the big streets of this city is the elegant European vibe and architecture, alongside the welcoming ambience and energy of the people.  This cosmopolitan city offers so many urban pleasures and there’s a lot to see and do. Here are the top highlights of a our 3 weeks trotting around the city:

Recoleta and Plaza Francia

Recoleta is one of the most fashionable, upscale barrios in BA. It’s considered a very important tourist destination and an extensive cultural centre. The Recoleta cemetery is one of the main attractions in the neighborhood. Many of the country’s historical figures and most affluent families are buried here. It has magnificent tombs, lots of stained glass and marvelous sculptures.  It was a breathtaking and also an odd experience seeing this artsy architecture, full of beautiful memories written about/to those departed.

Right across Recoleta Cemetery there is the Plaza Francia, where the artisan crafts fair takes place on the weekends.  It’s a great street market with beautiful, high quality arts and crafts. The prices are quite reasonable and we bought some really nice original jewelries, handmade clothes and clay mate cups. There are also many street musicians, live shows and food stalls selling cheap and delicious take-aways. The neighborhood itself is very beautiful with many nice cafés, restaurants and shops. It is a great place to spend an evening with friends, eating icecream or having a few mates in the park.

Japanese Adventure in the City

The Japanese garden in BA is a beautiful traditional zen garden with marvellous surrounding, fish ponds, cherry blossom and bonsai trees, red Japanese bridge and other traditional Japanese architecture. The place also has a traditional tea house, a Japanese restaurant and numerous stalls selling Japanese goods, painting and souvenirs. This cultural complex offers its visitors daily Japanese activities and shows (Shiatsu classes, Karate lessons, japanese holidays celebrations and fairs and more).  This was a fun and very authentic Japanese experience and if you’re looking for something different to do in BA this is definitely the place. Soho Palermo is a very Bohemian, trendy and vibrant neighborhood. We got to hang out a lot in this area of Palermo, and went out almost every night to different local pubs, artsy décored restaurants and cafes. The main square has a fair every Sunday with really beautiful clothes, jewellery and crafts. Its a great place to stroll around go shopping in the small pretty boutiques and enjoy the bohemian atmosphere.

San Telmo

Very colorful and lively neighborhood with vintage cafes and restaurants. Sunday would be the best time to visit San Telmo,  when the antique market is taking place at Defensa street. This place has a very charming and authentic atmosphere and you can buy there just about anything; antiques, clothes and handmade crafts. There is also live music and Tango dancing to watch as you walk down the streets.
